1978 Lincoln Continental Runs After 30 Years

A forgotten Lincoln Continental sat abandoned on a neglected lot in Philadelphia for more than three decades. In this video, Chris from the YouTube channel No Nonsense Know How returns to recover the massive luxury car, haul it home, and find out whether its huge V8 engine still has any life left in it.

Specification

Vehicle inspection reveals a late 1970s Lincoln Continental equipped with Ford’s 460 cubic inch (7.5-liter) V8 and a four-barrel carburetor. Despite years of neglect, engine internals are not seized, ignition components remain usable, and oil is still present in the crankcase.

Rust is widespread throughout the body, floor sections, radiator support, fuel tank mounts, and interior structure, but drivetrain components appear largely intact. Registration evidence suggests the car was last on the road around 1990.

What Happens in the Video?

Recovery begins with winching the Continental out of an overgrown urban lot packed with debris and abandoned vehicles. Once back at the workshop, Chris inspects the drivetrain, confirms spark, installs temporary cooling components, supplies fuel from an external source, and attempts a first start.

Against the odds, the big 460 V8 fires up and settles into a surprisingly healthy idle after decades of inactivity. A severely rusted fuel tank is removed, fresh oil is installed, replacement wheels are fitted, and interior cleanup begins.

Fun Facts

One of the most interesting discoveries is a service marking dated 1987 and a registration sticker from 1990, helping establish how long the car has been dormant. Even more surprising, the original headlights still operate after the engine comes back to life.

Conclusion

A forgotten Continental, buried in decay for over 30 years, proves once again that old American iron can be remarkably resilient.

Sounds of the revived V8, the recovery process, and the unexpected discoveries along the way are best experienced in the full video itself.
