Murphy’s Diesel follows Wrecker Rick as he brings home a massive custom truck built from a 1984 Mack Super Liner cab mounted on a military M1070 chassis.
Purchase in Colorado quickly turns into a serious road test as Rick decides to drive the enormous machine nearly 1,000 miles back to Arizona. Size, weight, and a cruising speed around forty miles per hour make the trip far more than a routine drive.
Before leaving, several quick fixes are needed just to get the truck ready for the road. Wheel studs have to be corrected, loose lines secured, and a cooling fan wired in to protect the transmission. Even with those repairs, Rick treats the entire trip as a shakedown run, expecting that problems will appear along the way.
Mountain climbs in Colorado quickly push the truck hard. Heat, vibrations, small mechanical issues, and roadside adjustments become part of the journey as the huge 6×6 slowly works its way through steep passes and long highway stretches.
Drive eventually proves that the truck can survive a demanding first run across several states, even if many upgrades and repairs still lie ahead.
Question remains whether this unusual combination of Mack cab and military chassis will become a serious heavy recovery machine or simply an ambitious mechanical experiment.
Real scale of the truck, sound of the Detroit engine, and slow climb through mountain roads are best experienced in motion, which makes the full video far more revealing than any written summary.
